When I first saw Beaver Stadium, I thought it looked like a monster," says Ki Dong Kwon, an M.F.A. stu-dent in visual art at Penn State. Since mov-ing to central Pennsylvania from South Korea, Kwon has been drawn to depict structures on the University Park campus and in downtown State College. His brightly colored paintings of Beaver Stadium contrast its commotion during a football game with its vacancy in peaceful and snowy winter. Kwon notes that his artistic concern is with the pace of life. "In these paintings, as in all of my work, I'm trying to catch fleeting moments and fleeting images. I want people to see that life is not a stable thing."
